When I hear the words, “My child is going to do the same as everyone else”, no shade, but I hear words that my grandfather would have said in the 40s and 50s when he was raising his children, who were all quite privileged and without any common learning struggles. What I picture in my mind is an old school house of children all following the rules perfectly and doing the same as everyone else.

It’s my Jam!, to help others get the things about Public School Special Education that are hard to understand, using real language and giving real examples, for real people. I think a talk about a kid’s education and growth should be clear to everyone who can help a student grow. So here, in this space, I’m saying less, hoping that we can all understand that education equals opportunity.

Meet Ms. Magic

School and learning were hard for me as a kid, and still is as an adult. Even today, I am not a perfect reader. I have to read things again, and again, and again, to understand what I read. Learning has never been easy or made me feel good at first.
I have a teenage son who makes me laugh and keeps me feeling young. We love the same music.
I NEVER thought that I could become a respected educator.
I have worked with students of various disabilities, i.e. DD/ILC/SSN, SED/AN, SLD/MM/ND, ASD/ADHD/SPD and 2E. I feel most confident in my experience teaching and case managing social-emotional/behavior regulation, learning disabilities, ADHD, and sensory processing difficulty. Just ask, and I can likely give you a very reasonable answer about it!
I have one degree in psychology, and my main degree is in special education. I have over 15 years of experience working in public school special education.
